Publishing Services
As well as publishing our own titles, we may be able to offer a full or partial publishing service. Perhaps you have a memory full of stories, a village history you are collating or something you've been trying to get into print? We can help with the entire project or any particular aspect you can't handle yourself.
Writing - If you haven't already completed your manuscript, we can advise on style, content, word count and whether we think it will sell.
Copy editing, proof reading and indexing - Even professional authors and subject-matter experts have their work vigorously checked, and a trained critical eye will pick up errors the author has missed. We have over 20 years' experience working for medium-sized publishers through to industry giants like Oxford University Press, Wiley-Blackwell and Reed-Elsevier, and therefore our standards are extremely high.
General design - We can work with you to design and layout your text, ready to give to a typesetter. From size, format and bespoke design features to processing illustrations and use of colour - all need to be carefully considered.
Typesetting - This is one of the more critical and costly aspects of book production, essential to ensure your text is prepared ready for the printer.
Cover design - Most people really do judge a book by its cover, so it's important to get this right. Are the cover and spine eye-catching, and does the back cover blurb convince the buyer?
Printing - We are able to source and liaise with printers to ensure you get a book that looks good at the best possible price.
Marketing - This is definitely the tricky part. Getting into Waterstones or WH Smiths is NOT straightforward. How many local bookshops are near you? What other outlets might stock your book? How much commission will they want? And how do you supply them?
Overall project management - We can take on any or all of the above tasks and most importantly provide a professional, personal, bespoke service.
Our pricing may not appear competitive compared to the burgeoning ranks of print-on-demand companies, but we feel our bespoke services are valuable and quote accordingly.
The stage where we will add significant value is the initial appraisal and copyediting, and we are happy to offer this service separately.

Sixpenny Handley - The Story of Our Parish
The first title produced under our Publishing Services arrangements, and our 'Step-Up' books imprint, was a wonderful guide and social history of the village and parish of Sixpenny Handley, hidden deep in the Cranborne Chase AONB between Blandford and Salisbury.
