Roving Press is a limited company, owned and run by Julie and Tim Musk. Very much a family concern, it was born of our desire to independently publish books that are down-to-earth, helpful and with a travel and/or local interest slant, and always with a view to the environment. The team comprises:

Julie Musk

Member of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists

After studying agriculture and business studies at Shuttleworth Agricultural College, Julie has worked in publishing for over 20 years. Throughout her career, she has edited, proofread and project-managed hundreds of books and journals, working in-house at Farming Press and Blackwell Science, and then freelance for such well-known publishers as Elsevier, Springer, Wiley-Blackwell and OUP. As a writer she has contributed monthly articles to local newspapers on wildlife and countryside topics, and has produced video scripts and nature reserve guides.

She has travelled extensively, including three years living in Germany and two in the USA. She is the author of A Slice of Apple Pie: Your One-Stop Guide to Living in America and Lesser Known Swanage. Julie is the project instigator, creative writing arm and principal editor for Roving Press.

Tim Musk

From his 23 years in the Royal Air Force, Tim brings a wealth of managerial and technical expertise to the company. He is relishing his new role and publishing challenges and in addition to being fixer of all things technical, he is the lead for our sales, marketing and logistics. He also undertakes much of the initial book design work and enjoys exploring his home county of Dorset for sales opportunities and new book projects.

William and Rosie Musk

The younger but equally important members of the team provide their views and input on subjects that the adults might otherwise overlook. Hopefully this gives a family-orientated approach to our books, which will appeal to those also with children.

Jester

Jester, our border collie, checks out locations and gives his doggy recommendations on where the welcome signs are. As a trans-Atlantic traveller himself, he has extensive experience of life in America (as described in A Slice of Apple Pie). He also adds his canine slant to the Lesser Known Guides series. As far as we know, he has not, yet, had an encounter with a Dorset big cat!
